Katy and Paul...better than Simon and Garfunkel

Thursday, July 22, 2010

Katy and Paul have recently married and they've taken up residence in a most precious Austin bungalow.  Katy booked this shoot to fill her new abode with a little 'Austin weird'. Weird can be so wonderful.  Austin was good to me.  It was just the creative Red Bull I needed to re-energize me.  I was so happy to finish the weekend with these 2.  It was hotter  'an blue blazes, but a little sweat didn't stop us from working the sidewalks of S. 1st Street.  All of these shoots make my heart pitter patter with creative contentment and while I'd love to think it was my doing, I have to say that I had an awesome group of Austin clients and the environment was certainly conducive to a little fun.  Anyone up for Austin in October?  San Antone? What'll it be?

Katy and Paul are hipsters and I must say that by default I must be hip, too, if they hired me to photograph them.  Let's just pretend.

The Jacksons: winners of the trooper trophy

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

If I had really been handing out trophies this past weekend, undoubtedly the 'trooper trophy' would have gone to the Jackson family.  They pulled out of their driveway before 6 a.m. in order to make our 9 a.m. shoot in Austin.  I had no idea that they would be traveling the morning of our shoot and after watching them tumble out of their vehicle dressed oh-so-adorable with smiles on all of their faces I would have never guessed that they had been on the road for so long that morning.  So, I think you might unanimously concur that they deserve something.  While I don't have a trophy, I do have some images that I hope make the trip and the trouble worth their while.

The Jackson Five could easily be Boden catalog models, but  pictures could never do their personalities justice.  They are an awesome family and it was so good to meet them.

Take note of the skateboard sequence.  Oh what a story it tells.  Right, Mom?

The Vollmerings/Smiths/Timmons

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

The Vollmering crew met me bright and early this past Saturday at beautiful St. Edward's University.  They were all giggly and cuddly next to their loves and I enjoyed partaking in their conversation and inside jokes.  It's obvious they have a lot of fun when they get together.  They were off to the lake following our shoot and they certainly deserved it after braving the heat with me.  Kristin directed me to Shady Grove for lunch that day with my honey and while I wasn't gutsy enough to try the tortilla fried catfish, the chicken fried steak was superb.  Mayb next time ! Thanks for the tip, Kristin!

P.S.  I'm waiting on a response from a few clients to firm up the last shoots for the summer.  It is just too hot and too uncomfortable with mosquitoes.  I might be booking a few back to back mini shoots at Sugarbabies Cupcake Boutique one weekday in August if I get enough response.  Send me an email and let me know if you might be interested in a time slot.  In September, I will only be booking 2 shoots a week, but I should be back to full shooting schedule in October....just in time for the Christmas rush!

The Heath Family : A Modern Family

Sunday, July 18, 2010

The momma that heads up this household is near and dear to my heart.  She and I crossed paths a little over a year ago and she has promptly wedged herself into my heart.  Tiff is a fellow photographer and if we didn't have separate, distinct businesses you might think that we were business partners as often as we discuss business, trade secrets, meet up to break the photoshop code, and offer encouragement to one another.  She makes me feel as good about myself as my momma does.  I love her for her kindness and her sincerity.  I finally got to meet her little crew this past weekend and they're a funky bunch for sure!  They are so natural and at ease in front of the camera and so I followed their cues and captured the unique dynamics that exist within this family.  It was a great shoot.  The girls brought along one of their friends who fit right in.  My only regret about this shoot is that we were missing Audrey.  I've heard so many great things about her and I was sad she couldn't be there.  Regardless, we have promised to do this again in the fall and when we do, Audrey will be the star of the show.
