I can't believe she's 10 weeks old.  I can't believe she's been her 10 weeks.  We're all smitten with 'our girl'.

Do you remember the feeling of wanting so badly to be "free" from the drudgery of high school?  It's the time of year when I get to shoot seniors and it's always so nostalgic for me.  I can vividly remember what it felt like to finally be graduating and yet here we are planning our 10 year reunion.

My best friend didn't come by these pictures easily.  She graciously subbed my kindergarten class for 8 weeks while I was on maternity leave and
did an awesome job.  I know she has a new appreciation for teachers :)  Anyhow, it was fun to get to do something for her.  Don't I have such a pretty friend? LOL!

Found a new jewelry designer I love.  I also purchased my own Mother's Day gift from here.

Check out Lisa Leonard Designs.

Here's my gift to myself (ordered, of course, with my children's names)!  I'm back to work today! Say a little prayer for me!

The mystery couple revealed at last...
Vol1

Stay with me for this story. Lots to share.  We begin the day with a typical in-home shoot.  As far as Doug is concerned, we're just shooting some fun couple shots and then some shots at the church in their wedding attire.  Doug has no idea that today is the day he's getting married!  Got your attention, huh?
So, a few shots from home...

And then we're off to the church for some more pics:
Vol6

Mind you that Doug still has NO CLUE THAT HE IS ON HIS WAY TO GET MARRIED!!!!  So the whole time I'm shooting and chit chatting I keep reminding myself to not blurt out something stupid and ruin the surprise.
We get to the church and as we are entering the church to "look around" family starts pouring out of the building in wedding dress.

SURPRISE!!!!!  Doug immediately knows what is going on.  I think it would've taken me a few more clues to catch on if I had been in his shoes :)  This was a moment to remember and one I'll never forget.

It was a sweet and perfectly imperfect wedding.  Hours were not spent consumed with the minutiae that goes into wedding planning.  There were not 300 guests. Thirty maybe.  No bridesmaids, no groomsmen.  No elaborate decorations.
Love - yes.  Excitement - yes.  Joy - yes.
Vol15

God bless your marriage.  Thank you for trusting me and allowing me to be a fly on the wall.  What a great view.

Okay, so not really.  A girl can dream, right?  Have I mentioned how much I love Harry Connick Jr.? LOL. Hubby and I got to see him perform in Chicago last year and he was amazing!

Wedding post and pics tomorrow!Promise!

Going to the chapel

Ahhhh...one of the many challenges of wedding photography - low light shooting without cheesy flash.  Kudos to you that do this all the time and have to adapt to whatever the night may bring.

looks like a wedding????

Monday, May 5, 2008

HA!  Yes, I shot a wedding.  Not your typical wedding.  I'll share why later this week with more pics.  For now, I've got one to share.  I'm diggin' this vintage look!

What you pay for...

Saturday, May 3, 2008

Is custom photography for you?  You may think it's too expensive when you can go to a chain store and get bulk packages for super cheap, but you get what you pay for.  I thought this would be informative for some of you that wonder if it's really worth the extra money.  Here's a shot I took last weekend (Stay tuned for the story behind this shoot).
Vol_2

I like this shot straight out of the camera.  It's natural, the exposure is pretty good, I like the composition, and they're a good-lookin' couple!  It's definitely different than what you would get at WalMart.  I've taken the time to talk to this couple and get them comfortable around me.  This is why we get personalized shots like this.  Alone, the shot is far better than what a chain store could offer.  However, this is not the end of the story.  I come home and post process every picture I offer to my clients to get an even better shot like this:
Volpp_2

The differences are subtle, but noticeable when you have something to compare it to.  I've made the shot even better without any dramatic changes that would compromise the integrity of the original picture.  I want my clients to love themselves when they see themselves in my pictures.  I want to offer a great product not just an 'okay' product.    Let's try a side by side:

Vol_5
Volpp_4

So, yes custom photography is more expensive, but so much more goes into it than what you would ordinarily get.  It has personality and a snappiness that you can't get from average photography studios.  Consider it an art.  This is my art.

Japanese Gardens

Thursday, May 1, 2008

Anyone interested?  Because of my busy schedule, I don't get the opportunity to travel to distant locations often.  However, I thought I might give this a shot this summer.  I'm looking to book 3 sessions on June 14th all at the Japanese Gardens in Houston.  Each session would be one hour and would include a CD with 30 images, 10 conversions and a reprint release.  If I book all 3 spots, I will not charge a travel fee.  The sessions will be $325 and I will need to collect $200 of the fee within a week of booking the appt. in order to hold your spot.

The date :  Saturday, June 14th  (rain-out date Saturday, June 21st)
Times     :  8:00,  9:00, and 10:00 a.m.

Let me know if you're interested or pass this along to anyone who might be.  Email me at cvkillion@hotmail.com

Sorry I've been missing my daily posts, but I was hospitalized for 4 days with gall bladder problems.  All is well and I am now home recovering!
