The first popsicle of the season

Friday, April 25, 2008

It's always tasty to a 4 year old no matter how long it's been in the freezer or how many ice whiskers it has grown while there.  Nothing great technically or artistically, but the subject sure is special.

The weather has been so amazing.  This precious boy is the son of one of my oldest friends.  He is even more adorable in person.

Kur2

I usually shoot for bright, vibrant colors, but I love the pastel creaminess of this image.

Bk

Just one to share since I will be using some from this session for the new site.  Gall Bladder surgery is in my near future so while I was hoping to launch in the next couple of weeks, it will be more likely to happen later on next month.

Class of 2008

Monday, April 21, 2008

Brittiny will be graduating from Crosby High School and will be attending TAMU (Whoop!) in the fall.  She is near and dear to my heart as she was a former student of mine.  I said many times while pregnant that I hope my daughter grows up to have the character that Brittiny does.  Brit is also my babysitter of choice!  My family just loves her and we will miss her so much when she is in College Station next year.

I would be thrilled if my son grew up to be like Tyler.  Tyler was not a student of mine, but everyone knows who he is and what he represents.  He will be at the University of Texas next Fall, but was also accepted to Notre Dame!  Decisions, decisions.  He is a class act and it was truly my pleasure to have taken his Senior photographs.

Fabulous Finds 2

Thursday, April 17, 2008

1. Check out my photographer friend's fabulous bag company {originally my FF friend, right Jennie?} Bags By Babycakes.  Jennie Murphy's bags are absolutely gorgeous!  She also has a pretty awesome photography business in Colorado you should take a peek at (Babycakes Photography)

2.  My good friend, Nikki, introduced me to this line of jewelry that I love:  Michele Baratta.
I own several pieces and I always get asked about them.  It's the perfect way to show off your photos.

3.  Last, check out Photostamps.  These would be so cool for party/wedding invitations.

3 days in a row!

I was saving this one for the new site, but I couldn't resist sharing it.  She is so angelic.

Photo tidbit***
You see the white lights in her eyes?  In the photography world those are called catchlights.  Photographers manipulate light, natural and artificial, to get these catchlights.  They give the subject a life-like, dimensional dynamic.  Here's the same picture with the catchlights cloned out on Photoshop:

Sophienolights

It looks a little strange without them.  Now you know that when you see these lights in a portrait, they were certainly planned.  Don't you feel smarter?

Until tomorrow...

Fabulous Finds

Monday, April 14, 2008

I've added a category to the sidebar entitled 'fab finds'.  I'm forever surfing the net and it seems I do it more now while I'm feeding Natalie so I thought it would be neat to post some of the neat things I come across.

My first fab find is the crocheted headband that Natalie is wearing.  It actually found US!  Her Mimi made it for her and I think it is adorable.  It's different from any baby headband I've seen and it's so soft... perfect for a newborn's head.   I think she should sell them.

A blog post a day...

Sunday, April 13, 2008

I've been so neglectful of this blog, because I've been smothering my new baby with love!  HA!  I'm still on maternity leave so nothing new photo-wise, but I am challenging myself to post every day Mon-Fri through the month of April...possibly May.  We'll see if I can keep it up.

In the last week I've received three emails asking for a bid on wedding photography.  I don't really do weddings.  There are several reasons...
1.  I don't have a second shooter (which you should really have for a full size wedding).
2.  It is a sector of photography all its own.  It is very different from what I do and I just don't feel comfortable.  It takes a tremendous amount of work and because I have a full time job, I'm not willing to give up most of my Saturday and be away from my family after working a full week.   If I ever took on the business full time, I might consider second shooting for someone else until I learned the trade.
3.  I have one camera body.  What if something happened to my camera?  Ahhhh!  If I were ever to do it, I would definitely have a second camera available.

It is very flattering that someone would consider me to take on the enormous responsibility of shooting their wedding, but I just cannot comfortably commit to something like that.  I WILL do engagement pictures!

Enjoy the beautiful Spring weather!  I'll post again tomorrow with a picture so check back.
